the lacked of Linux: Popularity!
In fact Linux users worldwide is less than 2%, it is very
much less than any other operating system users such as Windows and Mac.
So the question is : why the awesome operating system
doesn't have a lot of user??
to answer, let's look for some factors.
1. Distro LINUX (Linux Distribution)
There are many Linux distributions are circulating on the
Internet, which could mean we get and use for free. But only a few of the
popular and able to survive under development, such as Debian, Ubuntu, Open
Suse, Fedora, Debian, Slackware, etc.
So far, the developer is working properly provides a
powerful operating system and user friendly, and is open source, which can be
fitted with various applications and 3rd party applications, so the computer
can use to do a job.
2. Fund Development and Promotion
Linux operating system is developed by user community, not
developed by larger companies. The development depends on donations from the
donors, and its users. Minimal funds were a constraint for the product
marketing of Linux operating system itself. Marketing is run by its users,
through the activities of its users. I think the way this promotion is only
effective to target people who are already in love with Linux. For the broader
market, this way less effective.
3. 3rd Party Software Developer.
I think this is the biggest problem. 3rd party software is
software that ran on the Linux. For example, to do the office work, 3rd party
software is the most popular use is Open Office. To do the work of graphic
design, software Gimp and Inkscape dominate. To work a 3D animated object, the
operating system may Blender is one of the most formidable. Well, here's where
the problem is 3rd party software is can't challenge a proprietary software
that can do the kind of work, which was developed for proprietary operating
systems as well. The reason : free, but the work not finished. Not good !
4. Linux activists
Linux activists offer the advantages of Linux, they are
teach how to install Linux, make a hard drive partition, configure the network,
etc. Participants who had been interested in Linux, will feel that is DIFFICULT
to learn Linux, because they have to learn how install and must memorize
commands console or terminal. Compare with the proprietary operating system
activists are rarely found the training "Installing Windows"? They
are more common is proprietary software training entitled, "Training
Graphic Design with Photoshop and CorelDraw", "AutoCAD
Training", or the most convenient "Training MS. Office "?
So the answer is, because the end user don't need to know
how the system could exist on the computer. They just want to know they can
make something with the program!
